My next cake conquest – ‘Chocolate raspberry layer cake’

October 21, 2010 6 Comments

Why is it that I am so obsessed with huge, tall, monster cakes? Even my husband is tall.. maybe I have something about tall things??? Anyway I just received the November edition of my favourite magazine, the Australian Gourmet Traveler and in there is my next cake conquest!!!!!

Introducing to you the Chocolate rasberry layer cake…  oh how beautiful she is!

This picture just gets my creative cake making juices flowing. Since my last conquest, the Brown sugar sponge cake with caramel pears which I made for my

birthday, it has been hard to find something that will top how beautiful that cake was… can the Australian Gourmet Traveler top themselves? We shall see. Now the only thing I am left wondering is…  do I need a special occasion to cook such a visually impressive cake (I am hoping also taste bud impressive!) What do you think my loyal reader? From time to time I need encouragement and reassurance I am not going totally batty! So let me know what you think……. Do I need a special occasion or should I run out now.. get the ingredients and cook it on the weekend?

I think a cake that spectacular needs an audience. I’d start planning that party!

Hi Barbara. It’s funny you say that because I was chatting to a girlfriend last night and for some reason that conversation got me thinking… its time for a PARTY and this is the cake that will be consumed.. with some beautiful French champagne perhaps. Sounds like a plan to me. Thanks for stopping by :)

I made that cake for my mums birthday last year but instead of raspberries i used strawberries. it worked out a treat.
The most daunting thing about it was cutting it and serving it.
A handy tip is to take the top 3 layers off and to cut up and serve the bottom 3 first.

I also love the black cake stand in the photo but havent been able to track it down anywhere…

Very cool – thanks for the tip! How did it taste? I still haven’t made it can you believe!!!! hehehe I will before the year is out though!

I think it’s time you fired up that oven!

        It tasted delish!
I would maybe recommend pulling the cakes out a few mins early as they were a tad dry.
Also, don’t be stingy with the booze. ;)
